Please scrutinize and compare us with other sauna brands. Don't be fooled by low base prices for kits and single walled builds that won't hold heat, won’t last, and often require upgrades to function properly. Nukk saunas are intended to be a complete, ready-to-go, sauna experience, designed to provide a lifetime of sustained use and to hold up against all weather conditions.

We encourage you to read through conversations on Quora and Reddit, this way you can learn from people that have purchased barrel saunas in the past. To be fair, not all experiences are bad, especially if you live in a warm and dry climate. Here are some issues often sited: Limited size and headroom (curved interior makes sitting uncomfortable). Single walled and poorly insulated. Bench placement is often too low, no chance for “feet above the stones” and a strong “loyly pocket” experience. Leaks. Short product life, often needing to be replaced sooner than expected.

No. The differences between a kit and a hand built artisanal sauna are significant. Issues often sited with kits: Single walled and poorly insulated. Bench placement is often too low, no chance for “feet above the stones” and a strong “loyly pocket” experience. Leaks. Short product life, often needing to be replaced sooner than expected. Poor airflow. Not sturdy. More complicated to build than expected.

Traditional saunas heat the air to high temperatures, and the air heats your body. Infrared saunas are much lower in temperature, and use infrared rays to penetrate and heat the body directly. Traditional saunas have been around for thousands of years and have a substantial amount of research to support their effectiveness. Infrared saunas have been in use for about 60 years and have less evidence to support their safety and performance. While both types offer health benefits, research comparing the two indicates traditional saunas offer greater improvements in cardiovascular health, pain relief, and detoxification.

Generally, between 150-175 degrees Fahrenheit is the sweet spot for most people, however some enthusiasts prefer to sauna around 190-200+F degrees!
-
This is all about personal preference. Typically, 2-3 sessions around 15-20 minutes long, with cool down periods (cold showers or plunges in between them) works for most people. The whole experience lasting 1.5 to 2 hours start to finish.
-
Saunas are safe for most people, but check with your doctor if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart issues, diabetes, are pregnant, take medications that interfere with your body’s ability to regulate temperature or make you drowsy, or other health concerns you feel cautious about.
-
Saunas are hotter (150-200F) and use dry heat, the humidity rises briefly when you pour water over the stones. Steam rooms are cooler (110-120F) are kept at 100% humidity, and keep your sweat from evaporating. Saunas are generally easier to maintain since bacteria loves steam rooms. Steam rooms are a better solution for people that suffer from heat sensitivity.
-
Shower off and make sure you are well hydrated before your sauna. A little bit of food in your stomach is fine, if it’s too full or empty, you might feel a little lightheaded or nauseous. Make sure you have water in a bucket so you can make löyly (steam) as desired. Afterwards, be sure to rehydrate and wait until your core cools down before putting your clothes back on.

In most cases, for non-commercial saunas, at least once a month. If you use your sauna every day, then a weekly cleaning is in order.
o Use a towel to wipe down surfaces with accumulated moisture
o Open vents and your door for about an hour after the sauna cools down for increased airflow and additional drying
o Vacuum the floor
o Check for mold and make sure you follow proper cleaning and maintenance protocols should you find any
o Scrub down any dirty or stained surfaces with warm water and a mild natural soap, rinse thoroughly. For stubborn stains, sand gently with 220 grit sandpaper.
-
This depends on the size of your heater:
o 2kW requires at least 110v and a 20-amp breaker
o 6kW requires at least 220v and a 30-amp breaker
o 8kW requires at least 220v and a 40-amp breaker
o 9kW requires at least 240v and a 40–50-amp breaker
These are general guidelines, always consult with a qualified electrician.

We realize that true happiness is a complicated equation. It’s unlikely a sauna company is going to solve a mystery that has confounded philosophers since the beginning of time—but at Nukk, we believe we’re on to something. According to the World Happiness Report, Finland is the happiest place on earth; and according to the Guinness Book of World Records, they have more saunas than any other country (one sauna for every two people)—correlation established!
